General Information

Peru is the third largest country of South America, is it is located at the central pacific cost, it limits with Bolivia, Brazil, and Chile to the east and south, and Colombia and Ecuador to the north. Lima, the capital city well known as “the city of kings” is situated on the central coast and it is a beautiful town of interest due to their architectural and colonial structures that you may appreciate in different points of the City.
Peru is divided into 24 departments and counts with 3 important geographic regions such like: the coast, (ocean Pacific), the highlands and the Amazon jungle. Its geographic characteristic gives it a wide versatility of ecosystems and a diverse climate zones, making Peru one of the world’s most ecologically varied nations.

Weather

There is a variety of climate for each region in Peru.

Coast

The Temperature reaching 28 C during summer season (December-April), at the rest of the year the temperature can descends to 14 C with a 90% of Humid.

Highlands

the main rainy season is from December to April, with temperatures that fluctuant between 20 to 5 C. From May to November there are sunny days all day long with an intense cold by nights, being the best season of the year to visit all the different touristic attractive of the highlands of Peru.

Jungle

The weather is Tropical, its means that is hot, humid and rainy, the annual temperature exceed the 30 C.
*The Inca Trail is open from March to Jan (February is closed), due to the intense rains in that period of the month. The best time to do the trekking is from April to October. PERU TIPS – USEFUL INFORMATION

For Travel

-Carry always with you all the necessary documentation requires before, during and after travel.
-We advise you to get a travel insurance in case of any inconvenient during your trip, mostly due to climatic factors.
-If you travel to the highlands or to the jungle, bring with you an insect repellent and a raincoat for sure.
– Bring any special medications you require. It may be difficult to find it in the highlands.
– Always count with an extra cash in some cases you will need it.

Health & Hygiene

-Only drink bottled or boiled water.
– Be careful with crude vegetables and fruits that are not appropriate clean.
– Avoid eating food prepared by street vendors. (Some of them are not hygienic)
– Rest on the first day of your arrival to the Highlands, and consume light meals to prevent altitude illness (soroche). Drinking “coca tea” herb muna tea is recommended.

Security & safety

– Do not take taxis or cab outside of the airport, make sure to do the arrangement with a security company (you can get the information at the same Airport).
-Do not leave your luggage or packages by its own
– Ignore any requests to carry luggage or packages for strangers. They would contain some illegal items.
– Do not exchange money out in the street. (Go to exchange offices).

Vaccination

Vaccines or medical test are not an specifically or usual as a requirement at the moment of travel to Peru, however is highly recommended in case you are planning to go the Amazon jungle the yellow fever vaccine. More information vaccination >>>

Laboral Schedule:

. Banking hours in Peru are normally from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 13: 00 hours and then from 15:00 to 18:00 hours. As well, most banks open for the public half day on Saturdays.
– Stores: Usually opens from 09:00 to 20:00 hours.
– Public Administration: 09:00 to 17:00 hours in winter and from 08:00 to 15:00 hours in summer.

Money Exchange-Peru

Is recommended that money should be exchange in banks, Hotels or in a specific money exchange offices. About the bills or the cash dollars you bring please take in consideration that should be in good condition its means, crisp, clean and new-no tears. Also it would be rather not to use bills that exceed the am mount of of $10-$20.00 U.S., as you might find it difficult to change it. (ATMs) are found with facility in a town in Peru, as well as at major airports and bus terminals.
Traveler Check:
The use of traveler checks is limited. It is highly suggested exchange the checks in Banks considering the lost of the 2% or 5% of the total.

Credit cards:

The credit cards are highly accepted in Lima as American Express, Visa, Dinners club and Master Card. Please consider that in some provinces the use of credit cards is not than usual. More information cost money and bank >>>

Nightlife-Peru

Most of the cities of Peru have a very lively night life entertainment. In Lima, the most popular discotheques, pubs and night clubs are in the Districts of Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco. Then in Cusco or other cities are basically concentrated at the center or the main square.

Gastronomy-Peru.

Peruvian gastronomy offers a delicious variety of dishes around of their 3 regions. The most typical and famous dishes are: the Cebiche (Elaborated with fish and lemon), Lomo Saltado, Anticucho (with the heart of the cow), juane (typical of the jungle base on corn), aji de Gallina, Pollo a la brasa, Pachamanca…Etc.
Also do not forget to try the Peruvian authentic drink, “Pisco Sour” which is a cocktail prepared with Pisco, lemon, egg whites and sugar. As well as the “Chicha Morada” (purple corn juice) between other drinks.
