Full day excursion to the Urubamba Valley, visiting: Maras where we can see the snowy mountains of the Incas Sacred Valley and the Vilcabamba. At present this district keeps attractive pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican, highlighting people in the colonial doorways with coats of the nobles and chieftains from the sixteenth and twentieth century’s. Maras town splits on two routes, one to the archaeological complex of Moray and the other to the salt mines of Maras, each with an approximate distance of 4 km.
Then continue to the Salineras: or “salt mines” consist of about 2000 small wells, which were already exploited since Inca times as a means of economic exchange and is still being exploited by the locals. The water, which is exposed to the sun, leaves salt on the bed. Viewed from the peak, the myriad of rectangles look Like an enormous painting designed by nature. Inland, not far from Maras, we can find the Moray ruins, it is famous for its sunken amphitheater, formed by four circular terraces which seem to disappear within the highlands, by way of an artificial crater are reminiscent of a Greek theatre. Apparently, the place was an Inca agricultural research center dedicated to the experimentation of cultures around the different altitudinal levels of the plots (some more than 100 m deep) besides being considered for Incas as a place of concentration of female energy, which is considered as a magnetic center of the Pachamama.
From here you will drive into the Sacred Valley and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch near the tour of Urubamba. After the meal and some time to rest and relax, you will continue on to the town of Ollantaytambo, where you will visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo, an architectural group that in the days of the Tahuantinsuyo empire was a gigantic agricultural, administrative, social, religious and military complex that is considered the best surviving example of Inca town planning.
