In the Inca trail which starts at km 104, you will visit Chacchabamba reuins, then you will start climbing through a mountain totally covered by vegetation, for about 4 hours, until arrive to Wiñaywayna, located at a height of 2700 meters, where you will see a great number of terraces, where the Incas used to grow different plants and vegetables, including coca leaves. Then you will continue walking until arrive in Inti punku, Sun Gate, here you will have an amazing view of Machu Picchu. We continue to Aguas Calientes, here we will overnight and next day, very early, we will go to the majestic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. This is a short but an exciting trek.
Some recommendations: Do not forget to bring your passport, bottle of water, sunblock, a backpack with necessary clothes for al the days of trek, hat, and money in cash in case you want to buy souvenirs. Book your Inca Trail at least 3 months in advance due to the Peruvian government has established some regulations to avoid the deterioration of the place, because of the excess number of visitors and to protect the environment. Nowadays the limit number of visitors is 500 including porters and guides. is recommended to bring a bag to store garbage during your trek, do not bring equipments that can disturb the environment, campfires are prohibited. Generally one day before the trek, there is a meeting with the guide who will explain all about the tour.
