PROGRAM
From Puno at 07:00 am, taking the paved road leading to the border with Bolivia over some 150 km along the south shore of Lake Titicaca, begin leaving the Gulf of Puno at the Point and the beautiful CHIMU OJERANI rocky area, with graceful houses along the hillside. A 18 kms. Entering the historic town of CHUCUITO, which etymologically means “golden hill”, dominated by pre-Inca kingdoms, who left buildings such as the Inca Uyo and the Fertility Temple, which also is also an astronomical observatory. Its importance was such that settled here in the royal Viceroyalty of this era are still old buildings and churches of Santo Domingo and the Assumption. Follow the road reached the village of ACORA and 05 kms. Village, beside the road are a group of pre-Inca chullpas pertaining to the Kingdom Lupaka, the site is called “Molloko.”
Then, continuing at km. 70 of the road, within walking distance of Ilave, you can see interesting geological formations of red sandstone place called Ajayumarka “(city of the spirits) by the local population, because the rocks show looks amazing animals, buildings, etc. ., among which shows the famous “devil’s gateway” or “Aramumuru door”, which include mysterious stories. Following the road we JULI, “the little Rome of America, a city of particular beauty and also of great cultural and religious center of the Aymara in colonial area, occupied by Dominicans and Jesuits, who began building great churches in mixed style which are impressive examples of painting and sculpture.
Continuing to DESAGUADERO (Border town between Peru and Bolivia), you can see the beautiful Church of Zepita, in brownstone, built by Dominicans, much appreciated to have a perfect and harmonious volume distribution. In Desaguadero, you can see the International Bridge and border division between Peru and Bolivia. Its location gives it a distinctly mall where participating merchants from different parts of both countries each show on Tuesday and Friday. And only 32 kms. Moquegua on road and less than 1.50 kms. Walking from, you can admire the great pre-Inca archaeological complex known as Tanka Tanka, one of the largest sites of the department, where the remains of a large fortress and temples filled Chullpas associated with the manor Lupaka , return to the city of Puno at 05:30 pm approximately.
