Yaxchilan is one of the mos fascinating cities of the Maya world that emerges amid the screeching of birds and the noise of howler monkeys. Yaxchilán flourished between AD 350 and 810 during which period it became a capital.foremost among the constructions is the main plaza, around which stand a number of buildings and engraved stela. To the right of the plaza is Struture 14 (the ball curt )which still retains its engraved markers.in the background is structure 6 (the red temple ), where a large quantity of earthenware remains have been found.

After the visit, continue to Corozal to take the transportation to Bonampak ruins. Although this site lacks the dimensions of other zones in the area, Bonampak retains as many mysteries as any other. The city came into existence around AD 250 and reached its apogee between 6600 and 800, as a tributary of Yaxchilan. One of the foremost structures is the Main Plaza where the enormous stella 5 stands, measuring five meters in height by two meters across; the stella contains a representation of Chan Muan II, ruler of the city, and interesting hieroglyphic inscription. It was one of the cities whose demise occurred during the “Maya collapse”, around AD900. One of the most outstanding of this extensive complex of buildings is the Temple of inscriptions, so called on account of the inscriptions which can be seen on its walls; these consist of more than 617 glyphs, forming as a whole one of the longest texts so far discovered in the mayan world.
