The sanctuary of Machu Picchu is located in the Cusco Region of Peru; it has an altitude of 2,430 meters above sea level. Machu Picchu was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983, the beauty of this place is amazing due to it is surrounded by steep mountains and deep valleys. It also has a limit number of visitor, 2 000 per day. You can go to Machu Picchu through the Inca trail, an excursion of 4 or 5 days, or by train, only 4 hours from Cusco. In both ways you will be part of the impressive landscapes. Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes town, you can have a 2 hours easy and pleasant walk to the Sanctuary, or take a bus which last about 25 minutes ride.
Machu Picchu is composed by 216 stones buildings located in different terraces or platforms, connected by stairs. On July 7, 2007 Machu Picchu was declared as one of the new seven wonders of the modern world at a ceremony in Lisbon, in Portugal, which was attended by a hundred million voters in the world.
