An interesting trip that combines a
visit at the Nasca Lines, which represent some sort
of vast astronomical pre-Inca calendar, with a visit
to Machu Picchu , the Sacred Valley of the Incas and
Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire.
DAILY DEPARTURES from Lima
Day 1 : LIMA PICK UP
Pick up upon arrival and overnight at the provided
Hotel located in Miraflores, Lima .(no meals)
Day 2 : LIMA CITY TOUR AND GOLD MUSEUM
In the morning, Lima city tour (half day). You will
be picked up from your hotel at 09:00am. The city
tour begins with a visit to the Plaza the Armas,
which has been declared a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO. Running along two sides are arcades with
shops: Portal de Escribanos and Portal de Botoneros.
In the center of the Plaza is a bronze fountain
dating back to 1560. Located in the Plaza is the
Cathedral, note the splendidly carved stalls, the
silver covered altars surrounded by fine woodwork,
mosaic covered walls bearing the coat of arms of
Lima and Pizarro. Next to the Cathedral is the
Archbishop's Palace. Then you'll visit the Monastery
of San Francisco. This is famous for the Sivillian
tilework and paneled ceiling in the cloisters, the
catacombs under the church and part of the monastery
are well worth seeing, You'll visit the old colonial
streets in the center of the city, and the modern
Lima with the district of San Isidro and Miraflores.
Then you will visit the Peruvian Gold Museum; this
excellent private collection includes pre-Columbian
gold, silver and bronze, ceramics, weavings, mummies,
etc. The second floor of this museum is a remarkable
arms collections with an impressive exhibition from
Spanish colonial times. Hotel Overnight. (B,L)
Day 3 : NASCA LINES
You will be picked up from your Hotel in Lima at
5:00 am, we will provide a driver and a minivan, the
ride will take around 6 hours each way. On the way
we will visit the Museum of the site, the Maria
Reiche tomb. Then, we will stop at the over view of
Nazca. Cut into the stony desert are large number of
lines, not only parallels and geometrical figures,
but also designs such as a dog, an enormous monkey,
a bird with a wing span of over 100 meters, a spider
and a tree. These lines, that represent some sort of
vast astronomical pre-Inca calendar, are best seen
from the air. We will take a half hour flight above
the Lines (airfare not included). After the flight,
we will take some time to rest and we will have
lunch before returning to Lima.
Upon arrival, transfer to the Hotel. Overnight (B;L)
Day 4 : LIMA - CUSCO
Transfer to the airport where you will take the
flight to Cusco (airfare not included). Upon arrival,
we will transfer to the Hotel. At 1:45pm, we will
take the Cusco city tour. This tour includes the
major sites of historical interest in Cusco, such as
the famous Inca fort at Sacsayhuaman, and the temple
of the Sun. Also included in this is a tourist card,
giving you access to all the sites in the Cusco area
as a whole (i.e., including outside of the City
itself) This tour finishes at 18:30 approx, Hotel
Overnight (B)
Day 5: SACRED VALLEY TOUR (TUESDAY, THURSDAY AND
SUNDAY)
You will be picked up at 8:15am. Full day excursion
to the Urubamba Valley, visiting: the village of
Pisac, a picturesque town of creole and colonial
aspect and its lndian market and craftfair. Lunch
provided. In the afternoon you'll visit to the
fortress of Ollantaytambo, an architectural group
that in the days of the Tahuantinsuyo empire was a
gigantic agricultural, administrative, social,
religious and military complex, then the Chincero
market. At the end Return to Cusco and Overnight. (B,L)
Day 6 CUSCO - MACHU PICCHU
At 5:30 a.m. you will be picked up from the hotel to
the Poroy train station which leaves at 06:57 a.m.
Travel will be in a "Vistadome" Class (formerly "Autowagon").
At 09:52 a.m. you arrive at the Aguas Calientes
Station, from where you will take a 25 minutes bus
ride to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Once there, you
will take a guided tour, with an English speaking
guide.
Overnight at the Hotel in Aguas Calientes Town (Tourist
class accommodation). (B, Boxlunch)
Day 7 MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
Morning at leisure in Machupicchu (entrance fees and
bus tickets not included this day). In the afternoon
we will take the train back to Cusco. Hotel
overnight (B)
Day 8 TRANSFER TO LIMA
Transfer to the airport where we will take the
morning flight back to Lima (airfare not included)
in time to get your international flight connection.

Hello all the folks at Peru Gateway Travel,
We had a fantastic time in Peru. We thank you all for making
our trip a success.
The only concern is that the accommodation in Cusco was below
average and we would not recommend the Emparada Plaza (?) to
anyone. Even though the staff was good, the room/bathroom,
breakfast was very bad.
Once again, thanks a lot for making our trip to your country a
memorable one. All the guides, especially Guillarmo in Lima
and Erica in Cusco, were excellent.

We arrived home at 4 o'clock in the
morning, very tired (we had a long lay-over in Amsterdam) but very
very happy. I am so pleased to tell you that our Peru vacation that
you planned for us was excellent! Everything was just as the
itinerary said it would be. We were very pleased with the hotels,
and the transfer people and guides were always there and everybody
was so nice and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about your very
exciting country and its history, particularly about the Quechua
culture. We will always remember the Inti Raymi festival in Cusco. I
am so glad we were able to see that. Of course Machu Picchu was also
a great highlight. And, Michael and I also very much liked Arequipa.
We didn't know much about that city, but we had a very great time
there on our free day and visited the cathedral, spent a lot of time
going through the Santa Catalina monastario and, of course, went to
the museum to see "Juanita". Beautiful architecture there too.
Really, every day was wonderful, and we would like to thank you so
much for all your efforts. Also please extend our thanks to Maria
Carmen who was so helpful on the phone and to Julia, who came to the
hotel our first night to explain many things to us and give us all
our tickets and vouchers. And perhaps you also had something to do
with our last night in Lima at the Libertador. We got a suite -- a
very big beautiful room! Thank you so much.
