DAY 1: EASTER ISLAND
Reception at Mataveri airport with flower garlands and transfer
to the hotel. We recommend visiting the fruits and vegetables
market and the crafts center near the church. Father Sebastián
Englert Museum of Archeology owns the only intact original
moai’s eye. Besides, it displays a small but important
collection of tools and other objects used by the islanders
before the arrival of the European. Sunday mass is a must in
which Polynesian hymns are sung during the ritual. The services
are in Rapa Nui, (The indigenous language) Spanish and English.
You may see the sunset from the ceremonial Tahai site near the
town. You may also sight three platforms with statues, different
types of dwellings and a pier for boats.
DAY 2: FULL DAY TOUR TO ANAKENA BEACH (Rapa Nui Culture)
An excursion around the whole island awaits the visitor to see
the remains of what once was a powerful culture. The firs stop
after leaving Hanga Roa will be Hanga Te’e bay and the
unrestored platform Ahu Vaihu. Visiting “The moais factory”, at
Rano Raraku volcano and seeing the traces of statues in
different stages of their creation are some of the surprising
activities programmed. Also the warmth of the beautiful beaches
Ovahe and finally Anakena is the culmination before coming back
to the hotel in Hanga Roa. (B, Box Lunch )
DAY3: HALF DAY TOUR TO ORONGO (Bird Man Culture)
In this half day tour you will visit the extinguished Rano Kau
volcano. There you may get a wonderful sight of the entire
island. After a brief journey on a vehicle, the visitors will
finally arrive in the ceremonial town of Orongo, center of the
cult of the Bird Man. This town consists of 53 restored
dwellings built with flat stone and used by the representatives
of the tribes during the ceremonies related to the Bird Man
competition. In Mata Ngarahu there are rocks with more than 300
petroglyphs of Tangata Manu, of god Make Make and others. Before
the return, a visit to Ana Kai Tangata cave to see its paintings
of seabirds. (B)
DAY 4: HALF DAY TOUR TO AHU AKIVI (Rapa Nui Culture)
The visitors will be able to know different passages of the
island which will take them to the times of the ancient Rapa
Nui. One of these spots is the statues of the first seven
explorers sent from Hiva to search the unknown land for their
new king Hotu Matua. Then, an excursion to Ana Te Pahu cave, a
great chamber of lava originated by the volcanic activity. This
cave was used as a tribal haven in ancient times. If the weather
is favorable, it will be also possible to visit the unrestored
Ahu Tepeu, located by the sea, where you will enjoy the magical
landscapes and the traces of the ancient Moai culture. (B)
