Puerto Maldonado Tour - Madre de Dios
PUERTO MALDONADO - MADRE DE
DIOS
|
Puerto Maldonado is a small town in the dense Amazon
forest of south-eastern Peru, not far from the Bolivian and Brazilian
borders.
Sometimes referred to as the gateway to Peru's ecological paradise,
Puerto Maldonado is, in short, the Garden of Eden of Peru.
The town is easily accessible from Cusco (also spelled Cuzco) and Lima,
and unforgettable holidays to Puerto Maldonado are popular with
travelers anxious to discover the world of a tropical jungle.
Jungle lodges near the town offer visitors the opportunity to witness
what must seem like the dawn of time as seen through the area's lush
vegetation and prolific jungle wildlife.
Located at the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios Rivers,
Puerto Maldonado is also the gateway to several national parks in the
Amazon River Basin, including the Tambopata-Candamo National Reserve,
the Bahuaja-Sonene and the Pampas del Heath, all areas with unique
species and an extraordinary degree of biodiversity.
In addition to experiencing the natural wonders of the tropical wilds,
travel to Puerto Maldonado allows visitors to soak up local color and
culture, with festivals, opportunities to sample local dishes and
possible glimpses of the aboriginal jungle natives and their ancestral
customs.

RAINFOREST TOURS & EXPEDITIONS |
|
Nature is our passion, people our commitment. At
Rainforest Expeditions we build sanctuaries that host unique
experiences, engage local communities, and help hosts and guests learn
to value their relation with the Earth.
Our guides are biologists, tourism professionals, or community members.
All are trained in-house with a four month process that includes one
month of field classes and a three month internship. Unless noted
otherwise, our guides speak English. We assign guides at 10:1 ratio in
Posada Amazonas and Refugio Amazonas, and at a 6:1 ratio at Tambopata
Research Center. This means groups smaller than 10 people (or 6 people
in TRC) will be merged with other groups under one guide. If you would
like a private guide, a specialist guide or a guide in a language other
than English please let us know.
