Peru Travel Guide gives you the complete information that you need for
your trip to Peru. Trekking is a great way to see the country. The most
popular route is the classic
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Other popular routes are the Cordillera

Take a sleeping bag with you, since the nights in the mountains can be

Peru is located in central western South America. It covers an area of
1'285 .215 km2. It borders on the north by Ecuador and Colombia,
southern Chile and Bolivia, in eastern and Brazil and the west by the
Pacific Ocean. Its territory comprises different landscapes such as
valleys, plateaus and high mountains of the Cordillera of the Andes
spread west to the desert coast and the Amazon to the east. Peru is one
of the most biologically diverse countries in the world and major
mineral resources.
Peru's weather is diverse due to the influence of the Andes and the
Humboldt Current. The central and south coast has a subtropical arid or
desert weather, with an average temperature of 18 ° C and annual
rainfall of 150 mm. In contrast, the north coast has a tropical arid
weather due to the tropical sea, with an average temperature above 24 °
C and rainfall during the summer. When occurs the phenomenon of El Niño,
the average temperature of the entire coast rises, with highs over 30 °
C and the rainfall increases significantly in the north and central
coast.
Highlands have different climates like sub-humid areas between 1,000 and
3,000 meters, with temperatures around 20 ° C and rainfall between 500
and 1,200 mm per year; cold weather between 3,000 and 4,000 meters, with
annual temperatures average of 12 ° C and frost during the winter; Puna
weather or frigid weather, in areas between 4,000 and 5,000 meters, with
an average temperature of 6 ° C and annual rainfall of 700 mm and snow
or cold weather in areas by above 5,000 m, with temperatures below 0 °
C.
In the jungle there are two types of climate, the humid subtropical
climate in the high forest, with rainfall greater than 2,000 mm per year
and average temperatures around 22 ° C, and the tropical humid climate
in the low forest, with rainfall range of 2,000 mm per year and average

The official language of Peru is Spanish, also there are many native
languages, like Quechua, which is the most important, and another
language is the Aymara. Peru’s currency is Nuevo Sol. Peru is considered
one of the 12 diverse countries, with a great variety of ecosystems and
flora and fauna. Throughout most of the coast lies the wilderness of the
Pacific, while in the north coast and valleys of the Maranon, extends
the equatorial dry forest, a type of ecosystem like a tropical savanna
comes from the convergence of the Amazon influents, Andes and the
tropical rainforest of the Pacific. The mangroves are in the mouths of
the Tumbes and Piura rivers. The most widespread and mega-diverse biome
in the country is in the Amazon forest, which is divided into lowland
and highland jungle.
Peruvian cuisine is considered one of the most varied and original in
the world, has the greatest variety and diversity of dishes, there has
been more than two thousand different soups on the coast and just over
250 traditional desserts nationally. The cuisines of Peru, include
Creole cuisine, northern and Lima, the Andean gastronomy, Chifa (Chinese
food) and Amazon cooking. Perhaps the most representative dishes are the
ceviche on the coast, the pachamanca in the highland and juane in the
jungle. Between the traditional drinks are the famous pisco, chicha de
jora, traditional liquor of the highland. In the jungle, prepares masato,
indigenous liquor made from fermented cassava.
The Jorge Chavez International Airport is located in Callao, 10 km from
downtown Lima. It is Peru's main airport, because it concentrates the
majority of international and domestic flights in the country serving
about 11.800.0002 passengers per year. The airport is known for its huge
projections on connecting flights between the Americas, Asia-Pacific and
Europe. For fourth consecutive years has been chose as the Best Airport
in South America, ranking between the first places of the world ranking.
There are a total of 25 airlines operating at the airport, with flights
to 59 domestic and international destinations. The airlines with
international flights are: Lan, Taca, British Airways, American
Airlines, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air France, Sky Airlines,
Tam, United Airlines, among others. And the airlines with domestic
flights are: Lan, Taca, Peruvian Airlines and Star Peru.
From Lima you can take domestic flights to Arequipa, Andahuaylas,
Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Cuzco, Huanuco, Huaraz, Huanuco, Iquitos, Juliaca,
Jauja, Piura, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, Tacna, Tarapoto, Trujillo and
Tumbes.
