of the largest sub regions of the Pantanal with an area of 26,876 sq
km, which encompasses 19,45 % of the total Pantanal area. This
region is characterized by a savannah landscape with a great number
of bays, creeks and the main rivers Rio Negro and Rio Taboco.
Total distance driven today is 303 km, of which 130 km on a dirt

Fazenda Baia das Pedras, followed by the check-in. During your stay
at the hotel fazenda the following activities will be scheduled;
horse back riding, nature walks, canoe rides, caiman spotting at
night and photo safari in 4x4 jeep. The Fazenda was built in 1940,
who established working with the cattle. In 2003 the house was
reformed, without losing the original style. The Fazenda is located
on the shores of Vazante do Castelo, in the Pantanal of Nhecolândia.
The good hospitality and the pantaneira culinary are still a
tradition at the Fazenda where the visitors can also deal with the
cattle and get to know a little more about the culture of the
Pantaneiro men. These horses are trained for inexperienced riders,
making it easy for everyone to observe different environments in the
Pantanal, from flooded fields to open vegetation and even forests
with large trees. After check-in dinner will be served, rest of the
evening at leisure and overnight at Pousada Baia das Pedras. (D)
Day 2 NHECOLÀNDIA REGION
The trips mentioned above are scheduled at the pousada. The trips
will be carefully selected, depending the climate and time of the
year and will be guided by local guides that know all about the
flora and fauna that make this place unique. To avoid the intense
heath during the day, the tours are taking place early in the
morning and mid-afternoon, at these times of the day, the
possibilities of seeing the movement of the animals are a lot bigger.
During your stay all excursions and meals are included.Overnight at
Pousada Baia das Pedras (B,L,D).
Day 3 NHECOLÀNDIA REGION (45 km)
After an early breakfast we will head for our next pousada, Fazenda
Rio Negro. Arrival around lunch time. This fazenda is one of the
most traditional of the region. Here a series of different
activities are combined with the typical ranch tasks, together with
the pleasure of relaxing while listening to the sounds of nature.
The fazenda lies in the middle of nature paradise, where water and
earth become variegated tiles holding the secrets of natures endless
cycles. Come dive in Rio Negros dark and mysterious waters. Watch
the cheerful flight of hyacinth, blue-and-yellow and red-and-green
macaws. Feel the force of the howler monkeys roar and share our
passion for nature as the essence of life. During your stay the
following excursions will be scheduled at the fazenda; Horseback
riding, hiking, river excursions by boat and canoe, “pata-choca”
ride (a military vehicle adapted to local conditions), are some of
them. After lunch you will enjoy one of the above activities.
Overnight at Fazenda Rio Negro.(B,L,D)
Day 4 NHECOLÀNDIA REGION
After breakfast we will have a boat ride on the Rio Negro. Rio Negro
is one of the Pantanal gems. White sand beaches, crystal clear
drains of water, aquatic mammals as capybaras and otters, caimans,
birds and with some luck even the jaguar can be sighted. Slow and
calm, the river has an amazing abundance of fish species. Fishing (catch
& release), photography, swimming or just sunbathing on its natural
beaches are some of the available options. Return to the pousada for
lunch. After lunch a horse ride, The best way to get to know the
region. With typical saddles, Pantaneiro horses are very well
adapted to the regional environment and are a good companion to
enjoy the quiet journeys. Horse rides are carry out on trails
passing by Salinas (brackish water lakes), Baias (fresh water lakes)
and grasslands. Deers, tapirs, foxes, monkeys, armadillos, ant-eaters,
rheas, and great variety of birds are some of the attractions. At
the end of the afternoon return to the pousada where a delicious
dinner is served. After dinner whe head out into the dark to search
for Caymans and other nocturnal animals. Overnight at Fazenda Rio
Negro. (B,L,D)
Day 5 NHECOLÀNDIA REGION – ABOBRAL REGION (155 km)

Xaraés. This will be a long and adventurous ride on bumby dirt roads,
but we will take the time to enjoy this unforgettable ride straight
to the Pantanal. Leaving the Pousada in direction of Curva do Leque,
turning left and following the Estrada Park for about 30 km entering
the Pantanal region of Abobral. The renovated Pousada Xaraés is
located in one of the most beautifull geographical regions of the
Pantanal- the Abobral region, at the margins of the Abobral river in
a private area of 4200 hectares of pristine nature. After dinner a
night tour to search for caymans and other nocturnal animals.

Day 6 ABOBRAL REGION
After an early breakfast a nature hike, with underway explanation
about the fauna and flora of this region. After lunch a boat ride on
the Abobral river. During this trip there is a big chance to see
capybaras and monkeys on the riverbanks. Even with a bit of luck a
jaguar or anaconda. Amongst the birds that commonly inhabit the area
are: commorants, anhingas, skimmers, herons and egrets. a horseback
ride to disover the beauties of this incredible region. This is one
of the best ways to explore the Pantanal, allowing for visits to
areas which are inaccessible by other means, like local flooded
areas, where the water is too deep for motorized vehicles or too
shallow for other boats. The horses in the Pantanal, which are
raised in the region, are stout, strong and have water-resistant
skin, and are adapted to crossing long distances of flooded fields.

Hello all the folks at Peru Gateway Travel,
We had a fantastic time in Peru. We thank you all for making
our trip a success.
The only concern is that the accommodation in Cusco was below
average and we would not recommend the Emparada Plaza (?) to
anyone. Even though the staff was good, the room/bathroom,
breakfast was very bad.
Once again, thanks a lot for making our trip to your country a
memorable one. All the guides, especially Guillarmo in Lima
and Erica in Cusco, were excellent.

We arrived home at 4 o'clock in the
morning, very tired (we had a long lay-over in Amsterdam) but very
very happy. I am so pleased to tell you that our Peru vacation that
you planned for us was excellent! Everything was just as the
itinerary said it would be. We were very pleased with the hotels,
and the transfer people and guides were always there and everybody
was so nice and knowledgeable. We learned a lot about your very
exciting country and its history, particularly about the Quechua
culture. We will always remember the Inti Raymi festival in Cusco. I
am so glad we were able to see that. Of course Machu Picchu was also
a great highlight. And, Michael and I also very much liked Arequipa.
We didn't know much about that city, but we had a very great time
there on our free day and visited the cathedral, spent a lot of time
going through the Santa Catalina monastario and, of course, went to
the museum to see "Juanita". Beautiful architecture there too.
Really, every day was wonderful, and we would like to thank you so
much for all your efforts. Also please extend our thanks to Maria
Carmen who was so helpful on the phone and to Julia, who came to the
hotel our first night to explain many things to us and give us all
our tickets and vouchers. And perhaps you also had something to do
with our last night in Lima at the Libertador. We got a suite -- a
very big beautiful room! Thank you so much.
We wish you and your family all the best, and for sure we will be
recommending Peru Gateway Travel to our friends.
