Velazco Astete, Cusco Airport is located in the region and province of Cusco, in District of Wanchac, San Sebastian to 3.7 km. and, it is only at 15 minutes to the main square of the city of Cusco.
The Cusco Airport began its operations in December 1964, situated in the city of Cuzco, which is the city with major tourist attraction. It receives flights from several parts of Peru and some International flights. The airport operates on a limited schedule of flights due to its dangerous location being in the middle of the city. It is the second most commonly used air terminal in Peru, after the International Airport Jorge Chavez in Lima. The airport is the main gateway of the city of Cuzco and is an obligatory step to reach the ruins of Machu Picchu. This airport is the largest air flow in the south. Cusco airport is equipped with all comforts to respond effectively to the many tourists who visit the city. It was the first of the country in which boarding bridges or sleeves were installed. The runway is paved with a length of 3400 meters.
Its name is in honor of the Peruvian pilot Alejandro Velasco Astete, who was the first person to fly across the Andes in 1925. That same year, in a flight demonstration in the city of Puno, he lost control of his plane and in order to avoid crashing into spectators, lost altitude and died.
The airport count with only 5 gates and a few off the main terminal, this airport is fairly small but because it sees thousands of tourists a day, it has a good amount of facilities.

Parking – The parking lot is located opposite the terminal, with an approximate capacity of 300 vehicles in an enclosed area outside.
Hotels – Within the enclosure there are no hotels. But anyway all the Cusco hotels are not too far from the airport, it’s between 15-20 minutes.
