UROS AND AMANTANY ISLANDS FULL DAY TOUR

Amantaní is an island on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. The island is circular and about 9.28 km² in size. It has two mountain peaks, Pachatata (Father Earth) and Pachamama (Mother Earth), with ancient Inca and Tiwanaku ruins on top of both. The hillsides, are terraced mostly worked by hand and planted with wheat, quinoa, potatoes, and other vegetables. The residents make beautiful textiles and sell them quite cheaply at the Artesania Cooperative. The people are Quechua speakers, but understand Spanish. Electricity supply 6-11pm
Some of the families on Amantaní open their homes to tourists for overnight stays and provide cooked meals, arranged through tour guides. The families who do so are required to have a special room set aside for the tourists and must fit a code by the tour companies that help them. Guests typically take food staples (cooking oil, rice, fruits) as a gift or school supplies for the children on the island. Sweets and sugar are not recommended as regular dental care is uncommon on the island. Amantaní is known as the "Island of the Kantuta", after the national flower of Peru and Bolivia, which grows plentifully on the island.

UROS - AMANTANY ISLANDS You will be picked up from your accommodation at 8:00 a.m., to go to the port of Puno to take a tourist motor boat and to direct towards the wonders floating islands of the Uros. After a 1 hour motorboat ride, you will arrive at the Uros island in the Titikaka lake. Fishermen and hunters inhabit the floating islands of the Uros. The residents of the Uros are known as the “water tribe”, because they must construct its own Islands periodically, adding new layers of totora reeds, which grows in the lake, to create the conditions that ensure the islands stay afloat. The dense roots that the plants develop support the island. The roofs are waterproof and the houses are extremely humid because of the surrounding water. They used it as home and trade centers for the natives, who use hand-made boats of the same material as their means of transportation. At present, they speak Quechua and Aymara. Following this exciting tour, you will visit Amantani Island on Lake Titicaca. With a population of 3,500 Quechua inhabitants, it is known for its two pre-Inca temples dedicated to the earth's fertility. Built on different hills, these places are sacred and ceremonial rituals are still practiced by "Andean Yatiris" there. Amantani's range of magnetic field is unusual, and the residents renowned for their gentleness. You can be strolling the streets to get a sense of their culture. There are plenty of opportunities to purchase their woven textiles, pottery and straw baskets. Then we will come back to Puno, transfer to your hotel. (L) END OF OUR SERVICES.
